SOCIETAL CONTRIBUTION

If one takes a statistics of the students placed successfully through RICE, RICE Infotech and other institutes established by Professor Ray, one would find a very large percentage of present middle-to-high level government employees to be former RICE students. Over 35% of present West Bengal Civil Services Officers, 30% of all Block Development Officers, almost 40% of all teachers in government run or aided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, 25% of inspectors and sub-inspectors of police are successful RICE students. Apart from them, all nationalized banks have at least 1 or 2 officers who were from RICE. In the central government jobs too, there are numerous former RICE students. In fact, there are RICE students in the Secretariats of both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The Home Ministry and the PMO too has former RICE students.

RICE Group has also been part of the Central Government’s National Skill Development Mission and has successfully placed many young men and women after imparting them with necessary job-oriented skills.

Adamas Knowledge City also provides the best training opportunities for budding teachers as well as Civil Service aspirants. The programmes are structured thus, so as to avail a unique learning experience, helping students grow to be insightful in certain aspects as would be expected of them at their workplace. Students are groomed with meticulous care and are subjected to rigorous academic scrutiny, only to ensure them of a bright future, and enliven their hopes to materialize them for real, big time.

Within Adamas Knowledge City, under the purview of Adamas University, is another unique School that is a unique addition to all the ten academic Schools at Adamas University. The School of Professional Studies (now, Centre for Life-long Learning) is dedicated to complement and supplement academic study. Indeed, RICE, which has been the precursor to Adamas University, and has pioneered the training of government job aspirants, over thirty-five years ago, has played a key role in setting up this School. But School of Professional Studies takes a step further. Apart from imparting training for state and central level civil services and other top-of-the-line selection examinations, it also trains aspirants for entrance examinations to professional programmes like CAT/MAT, GATE, CPT etc. Training for those seeking higher education to foreign universities (through SAT, GRE, TOEFL, IELTS etc.) is also provided. The School of Professional Studies adds tangible value to the overall academics at Adamas University and provides another impetus to job creation.

At any given time of the year, the main training centre of RICE at Kolkata houses over 1200 students. In order to serve the needs of these students, a number of small ancillary businesses have come up. Around the RICE Centre, there are quite a few eateries that have come up and are being run by local people, serving different dishes and catering mainly to the RICE students. A number of paying guest accommodations have come up, housing RICE students. These accommodations also employ local people and thus contributing to the economic development of local areas. Apart from these, a number of bookshops and stationery shops by enterprising young men have been opened.

A replica of this development can be found around Adamas Knowledge City, which was until a few years ago, a sleepy hamlet. Now it is a bustling and rapidly developing town. A number of real estate developers have come up with apartment complexes at a stone’s throw from Adamas Knowledge City. Markets and shops have come up. This has massively contributed to the economic development of the area.

Adamas University, through its social development cell, also trains people in the area and helps them get gainful employment.
