Professor Samit Ray is the first education entrepreneur of Eastern India and the pioneer of professional training for competitive examinations for government jobs.
He is the Founder-Chairman of RICE Group, which had envisioned way back in the 80’s, a form of training that would be a synergy of knowledge, skill, research and creativity, and would consistently aim at the upliftment of urban and rural youth by making them competent enough to face any competitive examination for government jobs. As of date, more than 2.5 lakh students have passed out of the hallowed portals of RICE and are placed in positions of responsibility across government and public sector departments. Every government department – whether it is State or Central – has an ex-student of RICE.
Today, RICE Group, along with other institutes under its umbrella, is considered to be the benchmark in training and education throughout India and is recognized as a multi-location, multi-programme training specialist that runs on corporate lines.
All his life, Professor Ray has tried establishing institutions of learning. In 2004, Prof. Ray established Adamas International School, where he pioneered the idea of ‘day boarding’ and a day school running simultaneously. As time passed, this idea was successfully emulated by many schools across India, especially in some schools of Bangalore. Today, Adamas International School is one of the premier schools in West Bengal.
The vision of the education entrepreneur did not stop there. Professor Ray, dreamed of a utopia, that will provide a solution for all educational needs under one roof. It was with this idea, Adamas Knowledge City at Barasat was established. The Knowledge City has been built with the concept of a “City within the City” and holds an array of Educational Institutes – Adamas University, Adamas World School, Adamas Institute of Professional Studies etc. Located in an area of over 120 acres of lush green environment, Adamas Knowledge City also provides several facilities like a guest house, an amphitheater, an open air auditorium and a soon-to-be-set-up commercial centre.

Professor Samir Ray has also founded two charitable trusts – the Sachis Kiran Memorial Trust, named after his late father and Samit Ray Foundation. These Trusts are dedicated towards the upliftment of poor of the districts of North and South 24 Parganas, conducting regular free medical camps in remote areas, 24 X 7 well-equipped ambulance service, women empowerment programs and free education camps for rural poor and coaching camps for poor educated youths. During natural disasters, these Trusts take leading role in providing food and medical facilities to those affected.
